Improving the way we understand, approach, and treat core , spine and pelvic health issues.
Philosophy
The most marvelous thing about the human body is its ability to heal itself. I provide energy to remove obstacles in order to allow healing to occur. I will make use of all therapies, no matter where they come from, if they prove to be efficacious. I look at people as whole persons- not just physical, but also mental, emotional and spiritual beings. I believe it is key to take into account all aspects of a person’s life, and I deeply value my relationship with each of my patients.
Background
School
My passion for core and pelvic health really began when I was in PT school when I chose to write my doctoral thesis on the effects of pregnancy and delivery on the pelvic floor muscles. After PT school I continued my education on pelvic health and was blessed with some brilliant mentors. I started pelvic health programs at several PT clinics in Colorado, and enjoyed working with a lot of marathon runners and triathletes. Many of the elite athletes I was working with struggled with incontinence, and back and hip pain… this deepened my interest in pelvic health.
Understanding Pelvic Dysfunction
I then moved on to create a women’s health program in the urogynecology department at the Kaiser hospital in Denver. There I worked with Dr. Alex Shapiro, a top surgeon in the field of urogynecology. Together we rehabilitated thousands of women with all different kinds of pelvic issues, ranging from prolapse and incontinence to pelvic pain and endometriosis. I created pre- and post-operative protocols for women needing his surgical interventions for their pelvic issues. For 3 whole years, I saw, on average, 15 women per day with pelvic dysfunction. This was an invaluable experience because it allowed me to see patterns I never would have observed otherwise. But this also led me to continually seek out new, better methods to help these women.
Maya medicine
This is when I was introduced to Maya medicine and the works of Rosita Arvigo by a holistic nurse practitioner I was working with- Cindy Aspromonte. She became a dear friend and mentor of mine and taught me all about indigenous medicine. After studying Maya Abdominal Therapy, I realized the vital importance of the position of the uterus in overall pelvic and core health. When I incorporated abdominal massage and passive organ positioning into my physical therapy protocols, my patients improved much faster and needed far fewer sessions.
Hypopressive training
After realizing the importance of uterine position, I then searched for an active exercise based strategy to center the uterus. This is when I found Hypopressive Training. I studied with Dr. Tamara Rial, the creator of Low Pressure Fitness, and learned how to use breathing and posture to lift the organs, decompress the spine and strengthen the core. That’s when I also realized the powerful benefits this new system would have for anyone with back pain or injury, spine issues, and neck pain, too.
The Core Recovery Method®
Combining my physical therapy protocols with Maya Abdominal Therapy and Hypopressive training, the results have been truly incredible. The great majority of my patients have had complete resolution of their pelvic and core issues; they need fewer sessions to get there; and now are completely independent in managing their core and pelvic health with my new protocol.
Today, I use this powerful new protocol to treat women and men, athletes and non-athletes, with core, back, and pelvic health issues. I named this protocol the Core Recovery Method®, and am thrilled to provide an online program that will allow me to share it with people everywhere.
